“f/8 and be there"

Photojournalism is about being there!

As an example, I recently worked in the Eastleigh Rail Depot as an Interim Manager/Consultant. Train enthusiasts were often seen hanging around for days pearing over the bridge, cameras in hand, waiting for a glimpse of some train or other, trains that I was working on. I saw Eastleigh become neglected, decaying and close (in just months) - from massive facility able to build a train from scratch, to a wasteland...

I failed to paint this story in photographic terms due to working constraints, but it illustrates both a missed opportunity and an example of how we all have access to a story...

(The 'f8' bit refers to 'stopping the lens' aperture down to a smaller hole to ensure more depth of focus - you have this option on 'A' on most digital cameras...!)
